<Museum collections reconstruction with 3D printing damaged by IS.>
There is non-profit organizations that are working to put pieces back together digitally with 3D printing. A representative case is ¡®Project Mosul¡¯ of Initial Training Network for Digital Cultural Heritage (ITN-DHC) in Europe.
ITN-DCH is a branch of Marie Curie Fellowships, the first and the biggest one in digitally reconstructing cultural heritage. ITN-DCH is run by funding of EU ¡®FP7 (Framework programme 7: 7th research project is carried forward in EU, and plays a pivotal role in science and technology policy.)
¡®Project Mosul¡¯ is a project which reconstructs collections of the museum located in Mosul by applying 3D printing technology. The collections were ruined by armed Islamic State in February 2015.
The main idea of ¡®Project Mosul¡¯ is to reconstruct ruined relics into web plat formed ones by utilizing expertise, hardware, software and so on ITN-DCH has.
It visualizes real appearances of relics with the latest 3D photogrammetry based on images collected by crowd sourcing.
It needs only enough images and copies in visualizing digital artifacts. The more picture they have, the more precise 3D model they can visualize.
¡®Project Mosul¡¯ succeeded in reconstructing partly with images they got.
